The project provides general advice and help with personal/family problems, debt/welfare benefits, completion of forms, disability advice and preparation and representation at tribunals and appeals. The community has many social and economic problems including high levels of crime, poor health and low educational attainment. Unemployment is high and benefits dependency widespread.
Chester-le-Street & District Council for Voluntary Service & Volunteer Bureau, Co Durham
£35,662 over 3 years towards a new Deputy Centre Manager's post:
They provide support and advice to the districts' voluntary and community sector and also help enable local residents to make a real difference within their communities.
Sunderland Asylum Seeker & Refugee Support Network, Tyne & Wear
£31,250 Salary costs for a Development Support Worker:
They provide help and support to refugees and asylum seekers by holding weekly drop-in's (including women only sessions); a clothing and furniture store; activities and outings; advice; and training. As a 'network', they bring together statutory and voluntary organisations at a local, national and regional level.
Lawnmowers Independent Theatre Company - The Krocodile Klub, Gateshead, Tyne & Wear
£30,000 over 3 years for core funding:
The Krocodile Klubs are nightclubs run by and for people with learning difficulties. The venues provide evenings where people can come together to socialise and celebrate their culture. They also offer courses and have negotiated their own package of training in accredited DJ skills with Gateshead College.

£30,000 over 3 years towards the salary costs of a Benefits Advice Worker:
The area in which the organisation exists is identified as a deprived and disadvantaged area of Hartlepool. There are problems of low levels of employment, high levels of poverty, low levels of literacy and numeracy among adults, low education attainment levels, high rates of teenage conception and high levels of crime and resident arrests.

This is a self-advocacy project run by and for people with learning disabilities. They help people by providing information and advocacy in order for them to obtain their full rights and privileges as citizens.
Sunderland Headlight, Tyne & Wear
£30,000 over 3 years towards the salary costs for a part time Support Worker and Admin Assistant:
This is a mental health, user led resource project aiming to develop and support self-help groups and individuals to enhance their skills and develop new ones. They also work to reduce stigma within the wider community.
Families in Care, Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne & Wear
£22,200 over 3 years for support group work, computer equipment and refurbishment of their meeting room:
Families in Care is an independent social work service for the birth families of children involved in care/adoption proceedings. They support parents before, during and after care proceedings and offer parenting skills courses.
Hartlepool Families First, Teesside
£21,000 over 3 years for running costs for their Health Bus project:
The project formed in 1988 and originally provided services for children, particularly those with special needs from a mobile bus. It has now expanded to provide services such as loaning specialist adapted equipment for children and adults with special needs; a drop-in health mobile resource unit and a family support service offering a listening ear.
